‘My date stood me up, lied about his dad being sick, then his mum called me’

‘My date stood me up, lied about his dad being sick, then his mum called me’

Most of us have experienced a bad date at some point in our lives. And, sadly, some of us have experienced what is arguably worse: turning up at a date only for the other party not to show up.

One woman recently experienced the latter, but while you might expect that to be the end of a disastrous dating experience, for her, the nightmare was far from over.

Mason, who goes by the name of @masononthemic on TikTok, had planned to go on a first date with a guy last Friday, but things quickly went sour when she spent half an hour sitting in a restaurant waiting for him to turn up. Not cool.

“I took a nap so that I would be all rested and fresh. I showered. I did my hair. I looked good. And then I sat in a restaurant for a half an hour waiting for him, and he never showed up,” the radio host explained in a TikTok video.

“He then called me two hours later to let me know that his dad was in the hospital. And then he called me after that to tell me that his dad wasn’t actually in the hospital and that he lied.” Again, not cool.

But, just when you thought things probably get much worse from there, the date proceeded to send several very strange voicemails, which Mason decided to play out loud in subsequent videos.

“It’s been an hour and I haven’t really heard from you, which I don’t think is very cool. I talked to my friends, and they said I should have heard something from you by now,” the man said, as if he hadn’t just stood her up and then made up a sick father as an excuse.

“I know you are busy with work and everything like that, but I basically spilled my guts to you, you know, was super honest with you, and I just don’t think it’s fair that you’re not calling me back. This is not cool,” he continued.

“You know, honestly, I’m starting to rethink things, and I dunno, if I don’t hear from you in the next say 30 minutes, I’m sorry I just don’t think it’s going to work out.”

However, the man appeared to change his mind, later leaving another voicemail in which he apologised and explained he “hadn’t been treated very well over the years,” before going on to say he thought she would be different from his past experiences.

“You said you were different. I thought you were different. I just get a little upset when I feel like somebody is not being honest with me after I’ve been honest with them. I didn’t mean to yell,” he said, but his calm nature didn’t last for long and he quickly became irate, yelling down the phone again.

“Why haven’t you called me back! How could somebody do that to somebody else? I’ve told you that this has happened in the past. You said you weren’t going to do it. You said it happened to you and it happened to me. That’s why we got along so well.”

In a follow up clip, the raging man went on to threaten the 40-year-old if she dared speak about him on her TikTok, leaving Mason “fearing for her life.”

“The level of crazy that am immersed in right now with this man who will not stop leaving me voicemails. I should be frightened. I should be very scared for my safety, and yet I am also so amused,” she said.

But, again, just when you thought this story couldn’t get any wilder, Mason later received a voicemail from none other than, the man’s mum. Yep, this fully grown man got his mum to ring the date he stood up, in a desperate attempt to get another chance.

“I know I should not be calling you right now, that this is none of my business, but I have a habit sometimes of trying to make things right,” the mum told her, before saying that while what her son did was “not right,” he is a “good, kind boy” who deserves “another shot.”

It’s fair to say Mason did not give him another shot.
